Shipping & Plant Size Guide

Flora Quest is a specialist nursery focused on slow-grown, collector-grade carnivorous plants. Because these plants are living, seasonal, and highly specialised, sizing and shipping work differently to standard nurseries. This page explains how we classify plant sizes, how shipping is handled, and what to expect when your plant arrives.

How We Size Our Plants

Plant sizes are based on overall maturity and growth stage, not pot size. Measurements are approximate and intended as a guide only.

Please note: most Heliamphora and Nepenthes we ship are typically larger than the minimum sizes outlined below. The size chart exists as a baseline reference only.

Nepenthes -

Nepenthes are sized by leaf span and plant development. - Please note: most Heliamphora and Nepenthes we ship are typically larger than the minimum sizes outlined below. The size chart exists as a baseline reference only

  • Small
    ~5 cm (+/-)
Young but established plants. Ideal for growers happy to grow a plant on and enjoy its development over time.

  • Medium
    ~10 cm (+/-)
Well-established juveniles with stronger growth points and improving pitcher formation.

  • Large
    ~20 cm (+/-)
Mature plants with clear structure and reliable pitcher production under suitable conditions.

  • Specimen
Exceptional, standout plants chosen for size, form, colour, vigour, or rarity. Often one-off or extremely limited.

Nepenthes notes

  • Pitcher size is influenced by environment and may reduce after shipping.

  • New pitchers typically form once the plant has settled.

  • Natural variation between plants is expected.

Heliamphora

Heliamphora are classified by maturity rather than centimetres due to their growth habit. - Please note: most Heliamphora and Nepenthes we ship are typically larger than the minimum sizes outlined below. The size chart exists as a baseline reference only

  • Juvenile
Young plants with small but established pitchers.

  • Adult with Young Pitchers
Mature divisions actively producing new pitchers and showing species or hybrid traits.

  • Flowering Size
Plants mature enough to flower or that have previously flowered under correct conditions.

  • Specimen
Exceptional plants selected for size, symmetry, vigour, or rarity.

Heliamphora notes

  • All Heliamphora sold are division-grown (not seedlings).

  • Plants are allowed to settle for months before being released.

  • Some older pitchers may die back after transit — this is normal.

Shipping Details

  • Plants are shipped bare-rooted, unless stated otherwise.

  • Orders are carefully packed and dispatched on Monday mornings to minimise time in transit.

  • Shipping is within Australia only.

  • Due to quarantine restrictions, we cannot ship to TAS, NT, or WA.

Each plant is packed individually with protection for roots and growth points. Pitchers are supported where possible, but some cosmetic damage during transit can occur.

Weather & Transit Considerations

  • Shipping may be delayed during extreme heat or cold to protect plant health.

  • Transit times are outside our control once dispatched.

  • Temporary stress, leaf yellowing, or pitcher loss after shipping is normal and usually resolves as the plant acclimates.

On Arrival – What to Expect

  • Do not panic if pitchers decline shortly after arrival.

  • Allow plants time to acclimatise before repotting or changing conditions.

  • Resume normal watering and humidity immediately.

  • New growth is the best indicator of successful establishment.

Important Things to Know

  • Sizes are approximate and not guaranteed to be exact.

  • Each plant is unique — colour, shape, and pitcher form will vary.

  • Flora Quest cannot guarantee pitcher retention after shipping.

  • We do not offer refunds for plant decline due to incorrect care or unsuitable growing conditions.
