Heliamphora Purpurascens
Broad pitchers with deep colour and striking highland character.
Released in limited numbers. Not always available.
Heliamphora purpurascens is a distinctive species native to Ptari Tepui in Venezuela, where plants grow in cool, mist-laden conditions with constant humidity and bright, diffused light. These exposed highland environments shape compact yet upright pitchers with strong structure and an unmistakable presence.
First recognised as a distinct species in 2011, H. purpurascens is defined by its intense purple to deep burgundy colouration, compact but upright pitcher form, and beautifully shaped nectar spoon. In good light, pitchers often transition from green into rich red and purple tones, with colour concentrating along the upper pitcher and spoon, giving the plant its signature depth and intensity.
This is a species grown as much for colour as for form — bold, expressive, and deeply rewarding as clumps mature and pigmentation strengthens over time.
This offering is a division, meaning the plant is genetically identical to the parent. As a result, growth habit, form, and colour are more consistent, with less variation compared to seed-grown plants
Why We Love It
Exceptional Colouration:
Deep reds and purples develop readily under good light.
Bold Pitcher Shape:
Broader, thick-walled pitchers with strong visual weight.
Classic Highland Look:
A true tepui species with unmistakable highland character.
Colour That Improves with Age:
Pigmentation deepens as plants mature and settle.
Collector Favourite:
Highly regarded for its colour potential and presence.
Potential Pitcher Height
Under optimal conditions and with maturity, pitchers may reach approximately 25–40 cm in height. Actual size and colour will vary depending on growing environment, plant age, and individual genetics.

Important
Each plant displays natural variation. Individual specimens may differ in colour, form, and pitcher height.
Temperature and humidity ranges are guidelines only. These plants can tolerate short periods outside the ideal range, provided conditions return to stable levels.
